WOMEN’STEC is delighted to be a delivery partner for Antrim Enterprise Agency’s pilot project HER SHE’d, which will provide women in Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough with taster sessions in DIY, plumbing, tiling, electrics, painting & decorating and sowing, growing & cooking.   HER SHE’d is funded by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland from the Tampon Tax Community Fund.

HER SHE’d is targeted at women from the age of 19 upwards who are feeling isolated, want to have social activities and friendships as well as build their confidence and increase their skills. HER SHE’d will be delivered over 16 weeks and aims to support 20 females across the borough. All sessions will take place at Antrim Enterprise Agency. In addition the enterprise centre wants all participants to recognize the importance of positive emotional health and they will benefit from resilience sessions.   Participants will also be introduced to what is involved in setting up their own community shed or social enterprise.

The project led by Antrim Enterprise Agency is a collaboration between them and Women’s Tec and Groundwork NI with support from Fresh Minds Education and A Safe Place to Be Me.

Jennifer McWilliams Manager, Antrim Enterprise Agency is excited about this new project: “This project is all about Helping, Encouraging and Reassuring women who are at crossroads in their lives. HER SHE’d is a fantastic opportunity for women to consider a career change or a new career path by providing them with tasters in some more untraditional trades as well as supporting those who are looking for more social activities and friendships.  Lots of specialist support will be provided by the partner organisations.

We are hoping that the outcome of this project will result in participants wanting to set up a Community Shed in their own neighbourhoods – the Shed concept is about the ability to bring people together to share skills, tools and banter. Whatever activities are pursued, the spirit of a shed is not the physical building, but the network of connections made between the members.”

The first step in the recruitment is an Information Session to be held at Antrim Enterprise Agency on 27th February 18:00. To register for this event contact Jennifer McWilliams; jennifer@antrimenterprise.com or 9446 7774.
