Course Descriptions:

Joinery
A great introduction to woodwork, using hand tools and power tools to produce common joints. You can then put your new skills into practice and make a small project such as a foot stool or a spice rack.

Furniture Making
This is a progression class from the joinery course and involves creating a skilled piece of work using more advanced woodwork techniques.

Plumbing
This course tackles minor pluming emergencies and will guide you on how to deal with them. It will also give you a basic knowledge of domestic plumbing systems including taps, valves and cisterns.

Painting & Decorating
You will learn how to apply patterned wallpaper including planning and preparation. You will gain knowledge of what tools are needed, how to calculate the amount of paper you need, as well as cutting and matching paper. A great course!

Gardening
Don’t know a weed from a plant? Then this is the course for you. This basic gardening course will have you more confident and ‘green fingered’ in 10 short weeks. It will cover growing techniques for flowers and vegetables, as well as weed identification and control.

Herbs and Soils
Preparation of soil is key to successful gardening. In this course you will learn about composting, cultivation, soil chemicals and pH levels. When you have prepared the perfect growing conditions you will then grow herbs from the onion, mint and thyme family.

Electrics
Learn tasks from wiring a plug through to consumer units as well as making a lamp and fixing a doorbell. This is a practical course that gives you an introduction to domestic electrics.

Wall & Floor Tiling
Gain valuable skills you can apply to a range of projects. You will learn how to use tile cutters and other cutting tools, prepare surfaces, identify types of adhesive and tiles and use tile spacers.

ECDL
The European Computer Driving Licence guides you through IT & Security fundamentals:

• Word Processing
• Spreadsheets
• Presentations

On completion you will have increased your IT knowledge/skills, your confidence in computer use, an internationally-recognized qualification that can improve your job prospects.

Internet and E-mail
If you are feeling left behind in today’s world of technology then this could be the course for you. Learn how to send and receive e-mails and how to attach and download documents. You will also obtain skills in Internet Explorer to effectively search the internet and navigate an array of websites.

Word Processing
This course will provide you with the basic understanding of using Microsoft Word to create documents effectively including letters, flyers, and Mail Marge.

Social Media
Learn to use a variety of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to stay in touch and become part of the online community.

Digital Devices
Need to get to grips with the latest technology? In this introductory course you will learn how to use a digital camera and how to download music onto a portable media player.

Operate a Computer
Learn to navigate your computer with confidence. You’ll discover icons and what they are, how to change your desktop background and how to create, save and print basic documents in Microsoft Word.
