Youth groups
Our youth programmes support girls aged 9–18 living in disadvantaged communities, including those living in rural areas where barriers to engagement are greater. Many of these young people have limited opportunities and educational outcomes, leading them to the higher risk of moving into low-paid, insecure employment or no employment at all.
Through practical workshops in areas including Construction, DIY and Car Mechanics, alongside personal development activities, site visits and positive role models, we aim to build confidence and aspirations, and encourage girls to consider less represented career pathways.
We know young people's challenges have grown since the pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Many girls are stressed and anxious about the future, their finances and their sense of self-belief. Our programmes give them a safe and positive space to learn new skills, build confidence, decrease their anxiety and introduce alternative, more sustainable and secure career paths that will help break their cycle of poverty.
The programme is funded by CITB NI and BBC Children In Need.
